Terms and Conditions of Participation for the Berlin Quantum Hackathon

1. Organizer

The “Berlin Quantum Hackathon” (hereinafter “Competition”) is commissioned by the State of Berlin, represented by the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises (SenWiEnBe), as part of the state initiative Projekt Zukunft.

The organization and technical execution are carried out by Kipu Quantum GmbH, Roonstraße 23a, 76137 Karlsruhe (“Kipu”).

2. Eligibility

Eligible to participate are natural persons aged 18 and above, as well as teams from research institutions, universities, start-ups, or companies.

Participation in the name or on behalf of third parties is not permitted.

3. Registration and Participation

Registration takes place by signing up on the competition website: https://berlinquantumhackathon.com

Registration requires providing personal data (e.g., name, email address, institutional affiliation, and additional information about professional qualifications).

Registration deadline: 01 December 2025, 23:59 CET.

After successful registration, applicants receive a confirmation email from hackathon@kipu-quantum.com

Up to six teams including up to five members will be selected by the organizers listed in section 1 based on criteria such as Python programming experience and experience in quantum computing.

The participating teams will be announced by 12 December 2025.

Teams will then receive access to the Kipu Platform as well as compute-time quotas on selected quantum computers.

4. Competition Procedure

The challenge is based on problem statements provided by Berlin-based companies.

Participating teams independently develop solution proposals during the competition period. These are submitted via the Kipu Platform and evaluated by a jury.

The top three teams receive additional compute-time quotas on the Kipu Platform.

5. Use of Provided Data

The datasets provided by companies may only be used for solving the respective problem statements.

Participants agree to use the data only for the competition and not share it with third parties.

6. Rights to Submitted Solutions

Rights to algorithms, concepts, and other work results remain with their authors.

The State of Berlin and involved companies receive a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to internally evaluate the results and use them for public relations related to the competition.
